Design & Technology Curriculum
How we teach our Design Technology Curriculum
What does D&T look like at Rossington St Michael’s Primary School
Our definition for D&T
Designing and Making:
Something for
Somebody for
Some purpose
Children will be inspired through a broad range of practical experiences to create innovative designs which solve real and relevant problems within a variety of different contexts.
Children will be able to identify real and relevant problems, critically evaluate existing products and then take risks and innovate when designing and creating solutions to the problems.
Opportunities will be provided for children to evaluate key events and individuals who have helped shape the world, showing the real impact of design and technology on the wider environment and helping to inspire children to become the next generation of innovators.
Classroom
Children will be taught D&T throughout the year. This may be weekly sessions or D&T days in each term to allow time to develop knowledge and skills in a deeper and a more secure way.
The teaching of D&T will follow a cyclical 3-step process: Exploring/Evaluating – Designing – Making – (Evaluating).
