Welcome to Year 5

Year 5 Blog

Class Teacher

A warm welcome to Year 5. In year 5 we have two classes – 5P and 5Mc.

We are a welcoming year group who are brave and courageous learners. We are always determined and resilient individuals who believe that making mistakes makes us better learners.

5P is taught by Mr Porter and Miss Walker.

5M is taught by Mr McArdle and Mrs Norton.

A huge and happy welcome to Year 5 from Mr. Porter, Mr. McArdle, Miss. Walker and Mrs. Norton. This is a really important year and we are looking forward to preparing the children for year 6. During the year, the children will be learning a number of new and exciting units of work. Below are examples of this half term’s work that will be covered in various subjects:

Geography – North America and the difference between the different areas compared to Doncaster.

History – Doncaster including the airport and how the city (as it is now officially) has changed over the years.

Art – Perspective drawing.

I.C.T – Systems

P.E – Basketball and Tag Rugby

Science – Forces

P.E days are Wednesday (taught by Miss. Walker) and Thursday (taught by the class teacher).

Homework will be reading, SPaG and Maths which will be handed out on Wednesday to be handed back in the following Tuesday.

We really value the importance of reading in our wonderful school and year 5 as much as any year. Therefore, our expectation is that the children read to an adult each night for ten minutes and record this in their reading record. This is then be brought in each day to be checked and celebrated by adults in school.

We are all so happy to welcome the children to a new and exciting year ahead and we are confident that will hard work and a great attitude, the children will have an enjoyable year and make great progress with their learning.
