Wider Church Community
Charity and Compassion at Rossington St Michael’s
At Rossington St Michael’s, we believe in nurturing empathy, compassion and a sense of global responsibility. Throughout the year -especially at times like Christmas and Harvest - our children reflect on how they can make a difference in the lives of others, both locally and globally. They actively choose to support a range of meaningful charities, often inspired by what they learn in class and through worship.
Samaritan’s Purse – Operation Christmas Child
Each Christmas, our pupils learn about how children around the world celebrate the festive season. They are encouraged to reflect on their own lives and how they can show care for others during this special time of year.
In response, our school community supports Samaritan’s Purse through their Operation Christmas Child initiative. Each year, children and their families generously donate items to fill shoeboxes, which are then delivered to local churches and distributed to children and families in need around the world.
This is a powerful way for pupils to put their faith into action and show kindness across borders.
Toilet Twinning
Toilet Twinning is a unique charity that helps fund clean water, proper sanitation, and hygiene education in some of the world’s poorest communities. By “twinning” a toilet in the UK with a latrine overseas, individuals or organisations raise awareness and funds for global sanitation.
At Rossington St Michael’s, staff came together to raise funds to twin our school’s staff toilets. This initiative not only helped improve lives elsewhere - it also deepened our collective understanding of the global sanitation crisis and how simple actions can lead to lasting change.
WaterAid and Local Food Bank Support
WaterAid is a global charity that works to bring clean water, sanitation, and hygiene to people around the world. At Rossington St Michael’s, pupils learn about the impact of unequal access to clean water and how they can help support those in need.
Each year, we alternate our Harvest giving between WaterAid and our local food bank, helping pupils understand both global and local needs. In some years, pupils have been so inspired that they’ve chosen to support both - donating to the food bank in October and then supporting WaterAid during Lent.
This dual approach fosters a well-rounded understanding of charity, generosity, and the joy of giving.
Read for Good
Our children were inspired to support Read for Good, a charity that provides books and storytelling sessions for children in hospitals across the UK. After learning about the charity’s mission, our pupils chose to run a Readathon - raising funds by reading as much as they could.
We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm, dedication, and the impact they made. Their efforts not only raised valuable funds but also spread the joy of reading to children facing challenging times.
