Safeguarding
Safeguarding at Rossington St Michael’s CE Primary School
At Rossington St Michael’s, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. We believe that all children have the right to feel safe, valued and protected from harm, and we are fully committed to creating a secure, nurturing environment where every child can thrive.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. All staff, governors, volunteers and visitors play a role in protecting children and promoting their welfare. Our duty of care means acting in the best interests of every child and ensuring that our school remains a safe place to learn, grow, and succeed.
We follow a holistic safeguarding approach that includes:
- Prevention – creating a safe and supportive environment where children are taught how to keep themselves safe.
- Protection – identifying children who may be at risk and taking timely action.
- Support – providing help for children and families to overcome barriers and difficulties.
We also take into account the wider contextual risks in our community that may affect pupils' safety and wellbeing, and we actively seek to offer early help where appropriate.
All staff receive regular safeguarding training and are familiar with the statutory guidance outlined in Keeping Children Safe in Education (Part 1). We ensure that we act on any concern, no matter how small it may seem, and our staff are trained to do this. Even small observations can form part of a bigger picture.
What to Do if You’re Concerned
If you have any concerns about a child’s wellbeing - whether related to appearance, behaviour, hygiene or something they have said - please speak to a member of staff as soon as possible. No concern is too small to report.
If you believe a child is at risk of significant harm (such as physical, sexual, emotional abuse or neglect), please speak immediately to one of our Designated Safeguarding Leads:
Miss Jenny Birks – Designated Safeguarding Lead
Mr Matthew Walker – Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
Mrs Sally Atherton – Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
You may contact them via the school office (01302 868284), who will locate them if they are not immediately available. Please state that your concern is confidential and urgent.
